There is an added expense which is NOT being covered by the above-mentioned funds, the cost of “feathering the nest” of each resident. At move-in, each resident will find not only furniture and kitchen appliances, but also the amenities that we all take for granted:
- In the kitchen-a microwave on a cart, a coffee maker, a toaster, a can opener, pots and pans, baking sheets, baking dishes, mixing bowls and measuring cup, cooking utensils, kitchen knives, a cutting board, dish towels, pot holders, a dish pan and drainer, plates and bowls and cups, glasses, silverware, silverware organizer, food storage containers, and a trash can.
- In the bathroom-washcloths and towels, a bathmat, a shower rod, shower hooks, a shower curtain, and a trash can.
- In the bedroom-sheets and pillowcases, a blanket and coverlet, pillows, a mattress pad that is bedbug proof, an alarm clock, and clothes hangers.
- In the living room-a TV
- Cleaning supplies-a laundry basket, mop, broom and dustpan, toilet brush and plunger.
- On the porch-a chair and small table.
- At move in, each resident will also be greeted with a starter kit of consumable items (coffee and coffee filters, sugar and nondairy creamer, dish soap and personal hygiene items).
These amenities are projected to cost approximately $700 per unit. New Leaf plans to buy them in bulk with your donations. This is a worthy project. Please consider contributing the cost of feathering the nest for one unit at $700 or
for a specific gift of your choice. Feel free to mix and match or contribute undesignated.
